Do Not Wait for Too Late

Paul preached the gospel to the men of Athens. Some mocked him, while others said, “We will hear you again about this” (Acts 17:32).

Too late.

Paul reasoned with governor Felix about righteousness, and Felix replied, “Go away for the present. When I get an opportunity I will summon you” (Acts 24:25).

Too late.

While you still draw breath, take advantage of the gift of time. God’s patience is meant to lead us to repentance (Rom. 2:4). But for those of us who are believers, to whom repentance has already been granted, let us learn from these texts.

Though our hearts have been renewed, restored and redeemed, we, like Felix and the men of Athens, can say to ourselves, “Tomorrow…I’ll deal with that tomorrow.”

“Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring” (Prov.27:1).

Every one of us is appointed a day to die (Heb.9:27). You may not be alive tomorrow, so do not put off for tomorrow what must be done today.

Do not wait for too late. Today is the day that the Spirit is urging you, nudging you, pursuing you, moving you and convicting you to run from sin like Joseph ran from Potiphar’s wife. Drop the cloak of sin and run!

“Flee youthful passions…” (2 Tim.2:22)

But don’t just run away from sin; run straight to the presence of God!

“…and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace.” (2 Tim.2:22)

Do not wait for too late.

Yesterday is gone. You cannot redeem the time you lost to pursue God.

Tomorrow is not promised. You cannot wait with uncertainty to give your passions to the Lord, for tomorrow may be judgment day.

Today is the day. The present is a present, a gift. Take it, cherish it, and use it to run to God.

Do not wait for too late.
